Postpartum Physical Therapy Treatment in St. Petersburg, FL

Having a baby changes everything — including your body. Whether you had a vaginal delivery or a C-section, your pelvic floor and core have been through something significant. At The HOPE Doctors, we specialize in postpartum recovery for moms in St. Petersburg and Tampa Bay who want to heal the right way, return to exercise safely, and stop living with symptoms they've been told are 'just part of being a mom.'

What Is It?

Postpartum pelvic floor dysfunction refers to any number of symptoms that can develop after childbirth — leaking, pelvic pressure, prolapse, diastasis recti, core weakness, pain with intercourse, scar tissue pain, or difficulty returning to exercise. These issues are incredibly common but are not inevitable, and they respond well to pelvic floor physical therapy when addressed properly. Ideally, every postpartum woman should see a pelvic floor PT — in many countries, it's standard care. In the US, it's still something you often have to seek out.

Signs and Symptoms

••        Leaking urine when you sneeze, cough, laugh, or exercise

•        Pelvic heaviness or pressure (possible prolapse)

•        Core weakness or a feeling that your 'center' isn't holding

•        Abdominal separation (diastasis recti) or a 'pooch' that won't go away

•        Pain, tightness, or scar sensitivity at a C-section or perineal scar

•        Pain with intercourse after returning to sex postpartum

•        Not knowing how or when to safely return to running or high-impact exercise

•        Low back pain, hip pain, or pelvic girdle pain that lingered after delivery

How We Can Help:

We see postpartum moms as early as 6 weeks after delivery (or earlier for certain concerns) and work with women years postpartum who are just now addressing symptoms. Your care at The HOPE Doctors is individualized, unhurried, and comprehensive. We assess your pelvic floor, core function, breathing mechanics, scar tissue, posture, and movement patterns — then build a program that meets you exactly where you are, whether you're a brand-new mom or returning to marathon training.

What to Expect at your first session:

•       A 90-minute first session designed to uncover everything going on

•        Pelvic floor internal and external assessment

•        C-section or perineal scar assessment and treatment if needed

•        Core rehabilitation including breath-based activation

•        Clear guidance on when and how to return to exercise

•        A realistic, step-by-step recovery plan built around your goals and your life

Frequently Asked Questions:

When should I start postpartum PT?

We typically begin at 6 weeks postpartum for a full assessment, but we can see you earlier for scar care, breathing work, or gentle guidance. Don't wait until something feels 'bad enough' — earlier intervention leads to better outcomes.

I had a C-section — do I still need pelvic floor PT?

Yes. C-section moms often have scar tissue adhesions, core dysfunction, and pelvic floor issues too. The pelvic floor still bears load and stress during pregnancy regardless of delivery method.

My baby is 2 years old. Is it too late?

Never. We regularly help women who are 1, 5, or even 20 years postpartum address symptoms that were never properly treated. It's never too late to start.
